More Information about Meadowlark Kids Club

We want our nature hikes and learning programs to be as fun, educational, and safe as possible. Meadowlark Kids Club is an informal group for families to spend time outside and connect. This page shares helpful details, important information, and expectations to promote the best experience for our families and the natural spaces we encounter.

Safety

Adults are responsible for their children during hikes and activities. Meadowlark Kids Club does not supervise or assume responsibility for children. Hiking is an activity that poses inherent risks (falling, sunburn, etc.) Adults are expected to carefully attend to their children.

Open to all ages

Hikes and activities are open to children of all ages. Activities (scavenger hunts, etc.) and educational programs will be more tailored to school age children, but older and younger children are always welcome. Be mindful of your child's ability to walk on uneven surfaces for up to one hour. A carrier or shorter hike should be considered for younger children.

Natural spaces

In addition to respecting each other, we need to respect the natural environments we encounter. We will follow the common guiding principles when interacting with nature: "leave it better than we found it" and "take only pictures, leave only footprints." We will also follow any rules or guidelines established by the areas we visit.

Hike length

Hikes will typically be one-hour in duration. This could be a trek in for 30 minutes then back out for the last 30 minutes or a loop that takes approximately 1 hour.

Join when you can

There is no expectation that families will attend all or a certain number of hikes/events. This club is very informal. Families are welcome to join when they can, whether that's every week or once a year or anything in between.

Community

Meadowlark Kids Club aims to be an energizing group for community. We encourage contribution to the nature experiences for families and children. Feel free to contact us with ideas, suggestions, and feedback. We also expect mutual respect, support, and kindness during our activities.
